By a 48 vote margin, Anderson County voters approved a bond election Tuesday night that will bring a new $25 million hospital facility to a site just west of the present county hospital on Maple Street. The election saw the measure narrowly defeated in most every outlying precinct in the county, but it was bolstered by larger margins in Garnett’s two largest voting precincts. The final tally was 944 in favor, 896 against.

Contested city elections in Westphalia, Colony and Kincaid had still not been tallied by the time the mainstay of Tuesday’s vote was reported by county election staff, although USD 479’s lone contested school board seat at Position #4 was won by Travis Church with 230 votes to Frank Stewart’s 68. One hundred thirty-nine write-in votes were cast in the USD 479 position #7 post, in which Steve Prasko garnered 124 votes. Those write-ins will not be verified until the official canvas of the vote by county commissioners this week.
