Meager turnout in area races

Incumbents won the day in local school board and other elections in Anderson County Tuesday night, April 7, with a turnout that was as light as expected.

Only 626 or about 11 percent of registered county voters turned out in the contest, which saw ballot contests and some write-in campaigns in some of the smaller city council races. Write-in votes will be tallied when county commissioners canvass the vote this coming Friday.

In USD 365, incumbent Pat Rockers won his seat handily over challenger Kevin Calley in Position 4 315-56. In Position 6, incumbent Deanna Wolken defeated Patti Rundle by a count of 261-110. Dwight Nelson in Position 3 ran unopposed and got 315 votes. Mike Barnes ran unopposed in Position 5 and received 345 votes.

In Crest USD 479, Jeff Strickler defeated Terry Ellis 144-104 in the only contested race. David Milner had 110 votes in Position 3 unopposed, Frank Stewart won 177 votes unopposed in Position 4, Bryan Miller had 199 votes unopposed in Position 6.

In the Colony City Council vote, Marla Bain was elected with 105 votes, Donna Westerman had 88, AJ Silvey 74, Steven Wallace 72 and Melissa Hobbs received 70 votes. The Colony mayor's race will be decided by write-in votes.

In the Kincaid city races Tammy Neudeck beat William Blevins 19-5. Council votes included John Daugherty with 21, Paul Jones with 22, Kevin Vencel with 18 and Carolyn Whitcomb with 23.
