Industrial & Business:
Private and government entities in Garnett and Anderson County work together to pursue the tasks of business and industrial recruitment, and make up an important catalyst for business development, information, activities and networking in the area.
At the base of local efforts is the Garnett Area Chamber of Commerce, an affiliation of local businesses and industries which focuses attention on serving the needs of business people and those making efforts as entrepreneurs for the first time. Another major function of the chamber is to conduct numerous annual projects designed to generate traffic and add to the quality of life of the area (see calendar of events for special chamber promotions). The GACC staffs a full-time executive director, and some of its member services include:
A gift certificate program which allows gift givers to purchase chamber certificates in various denominations which can be spent at any member store, helping prevent dollars from leaving the community.
Referrals to member businesses. The chamber office receives hundreds of telephone calls each month, many seeking local products or services, which we are glad to pass along to our members.
Welcome packets filled with free offers and goodies from the local business community, free to families and individuals who have just moved to the area.
Bad check hotline. A notification service to member participants that alerts business owners when bad check writers hit the area.
Discount copy service. Copies for members are only 10¢, 3¢ if you supply your own paper.
Desktop publishing service. Members enjoy the benefit of the office computer system and executive director to make flyers, signs and other graphic communication tools.
To find out more about any of these services or for more information about the local area or the Garnett Area Chamber of Commerce, contact the chamber at (785) 448-6767 or e-mail the GACC.
Larger industrial and recruitment interests are served by the combined efforts of The City of Garnett and the Anderson County Development Agency (ACDA). A full-time director for these efforts is officed at Garnett City Hall, and serves as a resource for new or start-up industries in their quest to become part of the local economic picture.
Some of the benefits available through ACDA and The City of Garnett to qualifying industrial interests include the following:
A) low interest cash grants and loans
B) grant writing and research assistance through regional and state agencies
C) enterprise zone benefits
C) inventory of available facilities and industrial park land
D) Neighborhood Revitalization Program package with up to 8-year new tax rebate on qualifying improved properties.
